Mello, blacks have always been in Seattle but the majority of them migrated here from the south during the 40's and 50's to work in the Boeing plants and to escape the racism in the south. Most came from Arkansas, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. I believe the black population is shrinking in Seattle but not in the whole state. Seattle's black population was at 10% but I think it's somewhere around 8%. Also there was a small influx of young black professionals from all over the U.S. during the late 90s, including myself to work for Microsoft, Boeing and Starbucks. Met quite a few from New York, D.C., Los Angeles and Chicago.
